We launched the very first version of BackHub early 2014. Initially, we've built it as a tool to archive our GitHub repositories and keep only the active ones in our GitHub account. We thought this tool would be useful to other developers too and after launching it we've soon realized our earlier users didn't care much about archiving, but used it as a tool to backup GitHub repositories.
Since then we've optimized BackHub for the purpose of creating backups of GitHub repositories and it's associated metadata and recently launched a new version on GitHub Marketplace that includes new features like backup snapshots and the ability to clone from BackHub directly.
While growing over the years, the biggest challenge for us was to scale and be able to handle thousands of backups on a daily basis in a reliable manner. We continue to learn about our customers needs every day and constantly improve our service.
